About
A medical abortion is a method of terminating an early pregnancy using medications. This treatment causes cramping and bleeding. This option is available if you are less than 63 days (9 weeks) from the first day of your last normal period. We will do an ultrasound to confirm your gestation prior to giving you the medication. If you select the medical abortion, it is extremely important to return for a check-up appointment two weeks after your initial appointment to verify that the abortion was complete.

Some patients prefer the medical abortion because it is less invasive than the surgical abortion. However, the abortion may occur immediately or not for several weeks, and some patients may prefer the surgical procedure so they know that the abortion was completed immediately.

The medical abortion is about 95% effective. For cases in which the medical abortion fails, it may be necessary to return to our office to have a surgical procedure.

At this time the Seattle clinic, All Women's Health North, is not offering this option.
